Introduction

Whether your breasts have changed after pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, or simply over time, a breast lift can restore a firmer, more youthful shape and improve overall breast position. By reshaping your natural breast tissue and removing excess skin, the procedure creates a more balanced, refreshed appearance while preserving your natural proportions.

Many women considering a breast lift are not trying to achieve larger breasts—they are trying to restore the shape and confidence they once had. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, and the natural aging process can gradually change breast position and firmness. A breast lift is designed to restore a more youthful contour while respecting your natural anatomy, helping you look refreshed without looking “done.”

At Cabo Plastic Surgery, we perform breast lift surgery in Los Cabos for women from Mexico, the United States, Canada, and around the world seeking natural, individualized results. Every procedure is carefully customized to your anatomy, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals to create elegant, long-lasting results that enhance your confidence while preserving what makes you uniquely you.

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts. It can also reduce the size of the areola. It addresses sagging and deflation by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour.

This saving is possible without compromising safety or qualifications: Dr. López Konschot is certified by the CMCPER (Mexico’s ABPS-equivalent board) and operates exclusively in the AAAASF-accredited Hospital H+.

Benefits of a Breast Lift

Improved Breast Shape & Position

A breast lift raises and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning the existing breast tissue. The result is a firmer, more youthful breast contour that better complements your natural body proportions.

Restored contour Although a breast lift alone does not significantly increase breast volume, repositioning your existing breast tissue often creates the appearance of fuller, firmer breasts. If additional upper-pole fullness is desired, a breast lift can be combined with breast augmentation or fat transfer.

Better Symmetry & Nipple Position

Most women naturally have some degree of breast asymmetry. During a breast lift, Dr. López Konschot carefully evaluates the size, shape, and position of each breast to create a more balanced and harmonious appearance while respecting your natural anatomy.

Nipple and areola As the breasts descend over time, the nipples and areolas often move downward and may appear enlarged. A breast lift repositions the nipple-areola complex to a more youthful location and, when appropriate, reduces enlarged areolas.

Clothing Fits Better

Many women find that bras, swimsuits, dresses, and fitted clothing fit more comfortably after a breast lift. Restoring breast position often improves the way clothing drapes, allowing many patients to wear styles they previously avoided and, in some cases, feel comfortable going without a bra for everyday activities.

Renewed Confidence

For many women, the greatest benefit of a breast lift is not simply a change in appearance—it is a renewed sense of confidence. Feeling more comfortable with your body can positively influence your self-image, clothing choices, social activities, and overall quality of life.

Long-Lasting Improvement

A breast lift can provide long-lasting improvement in breast shape and position. Although the natural aging process continues, maintaining a stable weight, avoiding smoking, and following a healthy lifestyle can help preserve your results for many years.

At Cabo Plastic Surgery, we believe the greatest benefit of a breast lift is achieving results that look as though they have always belonged to you.

Choosing the Right Breast Lift Technique

Every breast lift is customized because no two women—and no two breasts—are exactly alike. The ideal surgical technique depends on several factors, including:

  • The degree of breast sagging (ptosis)
  • Skin quality and elasticity
  • Nipple position
  • Breast volume and shape
  • Whether implants will be placed or removed
  • Future pregnancy plans
  • Your desired balance between correction and scar length

The main visible difference between breast lift techniques is the incision pattern. Dr. López Konschot will recommend the option that best suits your breast shape, degree of sagging, and goals.

TechniqueIncision pattern
Crescent liftMinimal sagging; incision along the top half of the areola only.
Peri-areolar (donut) liftMild sagging; circular incision around the areola.
Vertical (lollipop) liftModerate sagging; incision around the areola plus a vertical line down to the breast crease.
Inverted T (anchor) liftSignificant sagging; incision around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and horizontally along the crease.

If you are also having implants placed, they are inserted through these incisions, either over or under the chest muscle. For implant removal, the original incisions may be used if possible. En bloc removal—taking out the implant and capsule as a unit—requires a longer incision.

Options Offered at Cabo Plastic Surgery

  • Breast lift without implants (native tissue lift): reshapes and lifts the breast using your existing breast tissue.
  • Breast lift with implants: combines a lift with breast augmentation to increase volume and firmness.
  • Breast lift after implant removal: lifts and reshapes the breast after removing old implants, with or without capsulectomy.
  • En bloc implant removal: removes the implant and capsule together as a single unit, followed by lift and reshaping.

Is a Breast Lift Right for Me?

Choosing to have a breast lift is a personal decision. The ideal candidate is not simply someone with sagging breasts, but someone whose anatomy, health, lifestyle, and goals make the procedure likely to provide a safe operation and a satisfying long-term result.

You may be a good candidate if you have

  • Sagging breasts (breast ptosis) caused by pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, genetics, or significant weight loss.
  • Loss of breast volume and shape, causing your breasts to appear deflated or droopy.
  • Flat, elongated, or pendulous breasts that have lost their youthful contour.
  • Nipples that point downward or sit below the breast crease.
  • Breast asymmetry, where one breast sits noticeably lower than the other.
  • Stretched skin and enlarged areolas resulting from changes in breast size over time.
  • Good overall health, a stable weight, and realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve.

If you would also like fuller breasts, a breast lift can be combined with breast implants (augmentation-mastopexy). If you have existing implants that you would like removed, a breast lift can restore a more youthful breast shape following implant removal.

During your consultation, Dr. López Konschot will carefully evaluate your breast anatomy, skin quality, degree of breast ptosis, nipple position, medical history, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals. Depending on your age, personal history, and breast health, a mammogram or other breast imaging may be recommended before surgery.

Who Is Not a Good Candidate?

A breast lift may need to be postponed—or may not be recommended—if you:

  • Are planning to become pregnant in the near future. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can significantly change the size and shape of your breasts, potentially affecting your surgical results.
  • Smoke or use nicotine products. Smoking, vaping, and nicotine products reduce blood flow to the skin and can significantly increase the risk of poor wound healing, infection, delayed recovery, and unfavorable scarring.
  • Have uncontrolled medical conditions. Poorly controlled diabetes, high blood pressure, bleeding disorders, or other significant medical conditions should be properly managed before elective surgery.
  • Have an untreated breast condition. Any suspicious breast lump, untreated breast disease, or abnormal breast imaging should be fully evaluated before cosmetic breast surgery.
  • Have significant or ongoing weight fluctuations. If you are actively losing weight or expect major weight changes, it is often best to wait until you have reached a stable weight.
  • Have unrealistic expectations. A breast lift can restore a more youthful breast position and improve breast shape, but it cannot stop the natural aging process or create perfection.
  • Are not medically ready for surgery. An active infection, pregnancy, or a condition that makes anesthesia unsafe means your procedure should be postponed until it can be performed safely.

Our goal is never to perform surgery simply because it is possible. Our goal is to recommend the treatment—and the timing—that will provide the safest experience and the best long-term outcome.

Our Philosophy

At Cabo Plastic Surgery, we believe that one of the most important responsibilities of a plastic surgeon is knowing when a breast lift is the right choice—and when it is not. Every recommendation begins with a simple question: what is truly in this patient’s best interest?

Every woman is unique. Rather than applying the same operation to every patient, Dr. López Konschot carefully evaluates your anatomy, skin quality, lifestyle, long-term goals, and overall health to recommend the treatment that will provide the safest operation and the greatest long-term benefit.

If delaying surgery, improving your health, stabilizing your weight, or choosing a different procedure will lead to a better outcome, he will discuss those recommendations openly and honestly.

We believe that honest guidance, thoughtful planning, meticulous surgical technique, and personalized care are the foundation of exceptional outcomes. Sometimes the best surgical decision is to wait—choosing the right time for surgery can be just as important as choosing the right surgeon.

Your Surgical Journey

Consultation & Preparation

You will have a detailed consultation with Dr. López Konschot to discuss your goals, review your medical history, and determine your surgical plan. He will explain the procedure, anesthesia, facility, recovery, and expected results. We take pre-operative photos and measurements, provide pre-surgery instructions, and arrange a mammogram if needed. Virtual consultations are also available.

To prepare, you may be asked to Complete lab testing and a medical evaluation with an internist; stop smoking at least 6 weeks before surgery; avoid aspirin, blood thinners, anti-inflammatory drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements that can increase bleeding; and arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and stay with you for the first night.

Day of Surgery

Your breast lift is performed at our AAAASF-accredited hospital. Dr. López Konschot makes the incisions as planned and removes excess skin. The remaining tissue is lifted and reshaped, and the nipples and areolas are repositioned higher without detaching them from the underlying tissue. If implants are used, they are placed at this stage, and incisions are closed with sutures.

Surgical time Approximately 2–4 hours on average, depending on your surgical plan.

Recovery & Aftercare

Before leaving the hospital you will recover in our post-operative suite, where the Cabo Plastic Surgery team will ensure you are comfortable before returning to your accommodations. You will receive a supportive surgical bra, detailed recovery instructions, and personalized guidance. During your stay in Cabo you will also have several in-person follow-up visits to monitor your healing before returning home.

To promote healing Wear your surgical bra as directed; take all prescribed medications; avoid strenuous activity, lifting, and upper-body exercise until cleared; sleep on your back with your upper body slightly elevated; attend every scheduled follow-up; and avoid smoking and nicotine products.

Your Recovery Timeline

First 24–48 hours

  • Swelling, bruising, tightness, and mild to moderate discomfort are normal and usually well controlled with prescribed medication.
  • Rest, stay hydrated, and take short walks around your room to promote circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots.

First week

  • Continue wearing your surgical bra day and night.
  • Swelling and bruising are expected, with gradual improvement each day.
  • Focus on resting, walking frequently, and avoiding lifting, pushing, or pulling.
  • Most women take about one week off from work.

Weeks 2–3

  • Discomfort continues to improve and swelling gradually decreases.
  • Many patients return to work and light daily activities, depending on the physical demands of their job.
  • Continue wearing your surgical bra and avoid strenuous exercise until cleared.

Weeks 4–6

  • Most swelling and bruising have resolved and your breasts begin settling into their new shape.
  • With approval, you can gradually resume regular exercise, including strength training and higher-impact activities.
  • Scars will still appear pink and firm but continue to improve over the coming months.

3–6 months

  • Your breasts continue to soften and settle into their final position.
  • Sensation continues to improve and scars become flatter, lighter, and less noticeable.

One year

  • Your breasts have reached their final shape and scars have matured significantly.
  • Most patients have returned to all normal activities without restrictions.
  • Maintaining a stable weight, avoiding smoking, and wearing a supportive sports bra during high-impact activities help preserve your results.

Life After a Breast Lift

A breast lift can restore a more youthful breast shape, but the benefits go far beyond appearance. Most women report feeling more comfortable in their clothing, more confident in their body, and able to enjoy activities that were previously uncomfortable.

Clothing & Confidence

Many women find that tops, dresses, swimsuits, and fitted clothing fit better after a breast lift. Clothing often drapes more naturally, and patients frequently feel more confident wearing styles they may have previously avoided.

Bras & Going Braless

You will wear a supportive surgical bra during the initial healing period to protect your incisions, minimize swelling, and support your new breast shape. Once Dr. López Konschot clears you, many women choose to return to regular bras—or even go without one for everyday activities. Wearing a supportive sports bra during exercise is still recommended to minimize breast movement and help preserve your long-term results.

Exercise & Returning to Sports

Light walking is encouraged soon after surgery to promote circulation and support healing. Most patients can gradually resume more strenuous exercise after 4 to 6 weeks, depending on their recovery. High-impact activities such as running should be avoided until your breasts have healed adequately.

Sleeping

During the first few weeks, you will need to sleep on your back with your upper body slightly elevated to reduce swelling and avoid pressure on your breasts. As healing progresses, Dr. López Konschot will let you know when it is safe to return to side sleeping.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

You can safely become pregnant after a breast lift. However, if you are planning to become pregnant in the near future, you may want to postpone surgery until after you have completed your family. Pregnancy and breastfeeding often change the size, shape, and position of the breasts as the breast tissue expands and contracts.

Aging & Future Changes

A breast lift turns back the clock, but it cannot stop the natural aging process. Gravity, changes in skin elasticity, hormonal changes, pregnancy, and weight fluctuations will continue to influence your breasts over time. Fortunately, most women continue to enjoy a noticeably more youthful breast shape for many years.

Long-Term Maintenance

Maintaining a stable weight, avoiding smoking, protecting your skin from excessive sun exposure, and wearing a supportive sports bra during high-impact activities can help preserve your breast shape over time. Regular breast health screenings and routine follow-up with your physician remain important throughout your life.

Results

A breast lift restores a more youthful breast shape by raising and reshaping the breast tissue, improving nipple position, and creating better overall proportion. While you will notice an immediate improvement after surgery, your breasts will continue to soften, settle, and refine over the following months as your body heals.

When Will I See My Final Results?

  • Immediately after surgery: your breasts will appear higher and firmer, although swelling, tightness, and bruising are normal.
  • First 4 to 6 weeks: most swelling gradually subsides, allowing your new breast shape to become more apparent.
  • Three to six months: your breasts continue to soften and settle into a more natural position.
  • Up to one year: scars continue to mature and fade, and your final results become fully established.

How Long Will My Results Last?

A breast lift can provide long-lasting improvement in breast shape and position, but it cannot stop the natural aging process. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, gravity, and the gradual loss of skin elasticity will continue to influence your breasts over time.

What Makes a Great Breast Lift Result?

At Cabo Plastic Surgery, we believe that the best breast lift is not the one that creates the highest breasts or the most dramatic change. The best result is one that restores youthful shape, improves proportion, and looks completely natural.

Friends and family should notice that you look refreshed, confident, and comfortable in your own body—not that you have had surgery.

Risks & Potential Complications

Every surgical procedure carries some degree of risk. Fortunately, serious complications after a breast lift are uncommon, and most patients recover without significant problems. Careful patient selection, meticulous surgical technique, and closely following your post-operative instructions all help minimize these risks.

Although uncommon, potential risks include:

  • Bleeding (hematoma): may require additional treatment or, rarely, a return to the operating room.
  • Infection: usually responds well to antibiotics but may occasionally require additional treatment.
  • Delayed wound healing: more common in smokers, patients with diabetes, or those with poor circulation.
  • Scarring: all breast lifts leave permanent scars, although they typically fade and soften over time.
  • Changes in nipple or breast sensation: temporary numbness or increased sensitivity is common during healing; permanent changes are uncommon.
  • Breast asymmetry: minor differences in breast size, shape, or nipple position may remain despite careful surgical planning.
  • Difficulty breastfeeding: many women can breastfeed after a breast lift, but this cannot be guaranteed.
  • Need for revision surgery: occasionally, a secondary procedure may be recommended to improve symmetry or refine scars.
  • Anesthesia risks: modern anesthesia is very safe when administered by experienced professionals, but all anesthesia carries rare risks.

An informed patient is a safer patient. Understanding both the benefits and the potential risks of surgery allows you to make confident, well-informed decisions.

Breast Lift Myths & Facts

There is a lot of misinformation about breast lift surgery online. Understanding what is true—and what is not—can help you make informed decisions and set realistic expectations.

Myth

A breast lift will make my breasts bigger.

Fact

A breast lift reshapes and repositions your existing breast tissue but does not significantly increase breast volume. Many women feel their breasts appear fuller because they sit higher on the chest. If your goal is to increase breast size, Dr. López Konschot may recommend combining your breast lift with breast augmentation.

Myth

Breast lift scars will completely disappear.

Fact

Every breast lift requires incisions, so some scarring is unavoidable. Scars usually fade significantly over the following 12 to 18 months. Dr. López Konschot carefully places incisions where they can be concealed beneath bras, swimsuits, and most clothing.

Myth

Exercise can lift sagging breasts.

Fact

Exercise strengthens the chest muscles beneath the breasts but cannot tighten stretched skin or reposition breast tissue. If sagging is caused by pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, or weight loss, surgery is currently the only predictable way to restore a more youthful breast position.

Myth

A breast lift prevents future sagging.

Fact

A breast lift can dramatically improve breast shape and position, but it cannot stop the natural aging process. Gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight changes, and changes in skin elasticity will continue to influence your breasts over time.

Myth

Creams, exercises, or non-surgical treatments can replace a breast lift.

Fact

No cream, lotion, supplement, exercise program, or non-surgical treatment has been scientifically proven to lift significantly sagging breasts. Only surgery can remove excess skin and reposition the breast tissue to create a meaningful and long-lasting lift.

Myth

A breast lift is only for older women.

Fact

Breast sagging can occur at almost any age. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, genetics, and natural differences in skin elasticity can all contribute to breast ptosis, even in younger women. The decision depends on your anatomy and goals—not your age.

Myth

All breast lifts require implants.

Fact

Many women achieve excellent results with a breast lift alone. If your primary concern is sagging rather than loss of volume, implants may not be necessary.

Myth

Bigger or tighter results are always better.

Fact

The best breast lift is not the one that creates the highest breasts or the most dramatic change—it is the one that looks balanced, natural, and harmonious with your body.

Breast Lift Questions Answered

Before Your Breast Lift

Why can I not see before-and-after photos on the website?

We prioritize patient confidentiality and privacy, so we do not display before-and-after photographs publicly. During your in-office consultation, Dr. López Konschot will be happy to show you a selection of breast lift photographs shared only with the patient’s explicit consent and used exclusively for educational purposes.

Will a breast lift reduce my breast size?

A breast lift alone does not significantly reduce breast volume. It removes excess skin and reshapes your existing breast tissue into a firmer, more youthful position. Many women feel their breasts appear slightly smaller simply because they are lifted and more proportionate. If your goal is to significantly reduce breast size, a breast reduction may be a better option.

Why should I stop taking supplements before my breast lift?

Certain vitamins, herbal supplements, and medications can increase the risk of bleeding or interfere with anesthesia. Common examples include vitamin E, fish oil, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, garlic supplements, and some anti-inflammatory medications. Provide Dr. López Konschot with a complete list of everything you take; he will advise which products to stop and when, typically about 2 weeks before surgery.

Recovery Concerns

How painful is breast lift recovery?

Most women describe breast lift recovery as more uncomfortable than painful. Tightness, swelling, soreness, and mild to moderate discomfort are normal during the first few days, but these symptoms are usually well controlled with prescribed pain medication.

Can I lift my child after a breast lift?

You will need to avoid lifting anything heavier than approximately 5 to 10 pounds (2–4.5 kg) during the first few weeks after surgery. If you have young children, plan ahead and arrange for assistance during your recovery.

How long should I stay in Los Cabos after surgery?

For patients traveling from outside Los Cabos, we generally recommend planning to stay 10 to 14 days after your breast lift. Patients undergoing more extensive procedures—such as a breast lift with implants, implant removal with a breast lift, or a mommy makeover—may be advised to remain longer.

When can I fly home after a breast lift?

Most patients can safely fly home 10 to 14 days after surgery, provided they are healing normally and have been cleared by Dr. López Konschot. If your return trip involves a long flight, stay well hydrated, walk periodically during the flight, and avoid lifting heavy luggage.

Pregnancy & Long-Term Results

Can I become pregnant after a breast lift?

Yes. However, pregnancy and breastfeeding often change the size, shape, and position of the breasts, which may affect your long-term results. If you are planning to become pregnant in the near future, discuss your plans during your consultation.

Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?

Many women are able to breastfeed after a breast lift, although this depends on the surgical technique used and individual anatomy. If future breastfeeding is important to you, discuss your plans during your consultation.

Can my breasts sag again after a breast lift?

A breast lift permanently reshapes and repositions your breasts, but it cannot stop the natural aging process. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight fluctuations, gravity, and changes in skin elasticity may eventually cause some degree of sagging to return.

Can I lose weight after a breast lift?

Minor weight changes typically have little effect on your results. However, significant weight loss may reduce breast volume and alter the shape of your breasts. For the longest-lasting outcome, it is best to be close to your ideal, stable weight before surgery.

Appearance & Results

Will I have scars after a breast lift?

Yes. Every breast lift requires incisions, so some scarring is unavoidable. Most scars continue to fade and soften over the following 12 to 18 months and are usually well hidden beneath bras, swimsuits, and most clothing. Proper scar care and sun protection can further improve their appearance.

Will I lose sensation in my nipples after a breast lift?

Most women maintain normal nipple sensation. Temporary numbness or increased sensitivity is common during healing and usually improves over the following weeks or months as the nerves recover.

Will a breast lift remove my stretch marks?

A breast lift can remove some stretch marks if they are located on the excess skin that is removed during surgery. However, the procedure is not designed specifically to eliminate stretch marks, so many will remain.

Every woman has unique goals, and a breast lift is often combined with or considered alongside other procedures to achieve the best overall result.

Breast Augmentation

If you are happy with the position of your breasts but would like more fullness or upper-pole volume, breast augmentation with implants may be the best option. For women with both sagging and loss of volume, a breast lift with implants restores both shape and fullness.

Breast Reduction

Women with large, heavy breasts who also experience sagging, neck pain, shoulder discomfort, or skin irritation may benefit more from a breast reduction, which removes excess breast tissue while lifting and reshaping the breasts.

Breast Implant Removal & Capsulectomy

If you have existing breast implants and would like them removed, a breast lift can restore a more youthful breast shape after implant removal, with a partial, total, or en bloc capsulectomy where appropriate.

Mommy Makeover

Many women choose to combine a breast lift with a tummy tuck and liposuction, addressing many of the physical changes that occur after pregnancy and breastfeeding while reducing the need for multiple recovery periods.

Pregnancy and significant weight loss often affect both the breasts and abdomen, so a breast lift is also commonly combined with a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) or with liposuction of the abdomen, waist, flanks, back, or thighs to improve overall body proportion.

No two women—and no two breasts—are exactly alike. Whether a breast lift alone or a combination of procedures is recommended, every surgical plan is customized to achieve results that look balanced, natural, and harmonious with your body.
