Introduction

Aging happens gradually. Over time, declining collagen and elastin can lead to skin laxity, fine lines, and a loss of firmness in the face, neck, and other areas of the body.

Sofwave™ is a non-surgical ultrasound treatment designed to stimulate the skin's natural collagen-remodeling process, helping to tighten, lift, and improve skin quality without incisions or significant downtime.

At Cabo Plastic Surgery, Sofwave is particularly valuable for patients who are beginning to notice skin laxity but do not need — or are not ready for — surgical correction. Results develop gradually, creating a refreshed appearance rather than an obvious change.

The goal is not to make you look different. It is to help you look naturally refreshed, firmer, and more like yourself.

Our Philosophy: Preserve, Support & Rejuvenate

We believe non-surgical rejuvenation should enhance your appearance without changing what makes you look like yourself. Sofwave supports this philosophy by stimulating your natural collagen-remodeling process to gradually tighten and strengthen the skin.

The key is choosing the right treatment at the right time. Sofwave can be an excellent option for mild to moderate skin laxity, while more advanced aging may be better addressed surgically.

Understanding Sofwave: What It Is & How It Works

Sofwave™ is a non-surgical ultrasound treatment that stimulates collagen and elastin remodeling to improve skin firmness and laxity.

It uses SUPERB™ (Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam) technology to deliver controlled ultrasound energy approximately 1.5 mm into the mid-dermis, where collagen remodeling is stimulated while the skin's surface is protected by integrated cooling.

Over the following weeks and months, this natural remodeling process gradually firms, tightens, and improves the quality of the skin — without incisions or significant downtime. Unlike treatments that add volume or surgically reposition tissues, Sofwave works by stimulating your skin's natural collagen-remodeling process.

What Can Sofwave Treat?

Sofwave™ is designed primarily for mild to moderate skin laxity and signs of collagen loss. It can help improve:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Loss of firmness and elasticity.
  • Mild facial and neck laxity.
  • Early jowling and reduced jawline definition.
  • Loose skin beneath the chin.
  • Mild upper-arm skin laxity.
  • Subtle eyebrow lifting.

Sofwave is best suited to early or moderate signs of skin laxity.

Is Sofwave Right for Me?

You may be a good candidate if you

  • Have mild to moderate skin laxity.
  • Want subtle, natural-looking tightening.
  • Prefer a non-surgical treatment with minimal skin downtime.
  • Are in good general health.
  • Have realistic expectations about the degree of improvement.
  • Want to maintain skin firmness as you age, or complement previous facial rejuvenation.

Surgery may be more appropriate if you have

  • More advanced jowling.
  • Significant neck laxity.
  • Substantial excess skin.
  • Deeper tissue descent that a non-surgical treatment cannot reasonably correct.

Your consultation is ultimately about determining whether Sofwave is the right treatment for your anatomy — not simply whether you can have it.

Consultation & Treatment Experience

Your consultation

Your treatment begins with a careful evaluation of your skin quality, degree of laxity, facial anatomy, treatment goals, and expectations. We will determine whether Sofwave™ is appropriate and which areas are most likely to benefit.

Your Sofwave treatment

The Sofwave handpiece delivers controlled ultrasound energy methodically across the selected areas, while integrated cooling helps protect the skin's surface. A full face and neck treatment typically takes approximately 45–60 minutes.

Full face and neck Sofwave is performed with sedation administered by an anesthesiologist, allowing you to remain comfortable throughout the treatment.

Comfort & Sedation: The Cabo Plastic Surgery Difference

Sofwave™ delivers ultrasound energy into the dermis and can be uncomfortable, particularly when treating the full face and neck.

At Cabo Plastic Surgery, we approach comfort differently. Full face and neck Sofwave treatment is performed with sedation administered and monitored by an anesthesiologist, rather than relying on topical numbing alone. This allows you to relax comfortably while your personalized treatment is performed.

Because sedation is used, you will need a responsible adult to drive you home, and we recommend keeping the remainder of the day light. Our goal is not simply an effective treatment, but a comfortable, medically supervised experience from beginning to end.

Recovery & Aftercare

Sofwave™ requires minimal skin downtime. Mild redness, warmth, or slight swelling may occur immediately after treatment and typically improves within several hours. Most patients can resume normal skincare and makeup the same day.

Because full face and neck treatment here includes sedation, your recovery that day is influenced more by the sedation than by Sofwave itself. You will need someone to drive you home, and we recommend resting for the remainder of the day.

After treatment, continue good skincare and daily sun protection. There are generally no prolonged activity restrictions related to the Sofwave treatment itself.

Results & Treatment Plan

Sofwave™ results develop gradually, as your body produces and remodels collagen following treatment.

Several weeks

  • Some patients begin to notice improvement.

2–3 months

  • Continued tightening and firming as collagen remodeling progresses.

Ongoing

  • Many patients undergo a single Sofwave treatment, although an additional treatment may be recommended depending on the degree of laxity, response, and individual goals.

Improvements may include firmer, tighter-looking skin, softer fine lines and wrinkles, improved jawline and neck definition, subtle eyebrow lifting, and smoother overall skin quality.

Sofwave does not stop the aging process. Future maintenance can be personalized according to how your skin changes over time. The goal is gradual, natural-looking improvement — not an artificial or overtreated appearance.

Risks & Considerations

Sofwave™ is non-surgical and generally well tolerated when performed in appropriately selected patients, but all energy-based treatments carry potential risks.

  • Temporary redness, warmth, tenderness, swelling, or mild discomfort in the treated area.
  • Less commonly: prolonged swelling, bruising, changes in sensation, burns, blistering, or changes in skin pigmentation.

Sofwave may not be appropriate for everyone. Your medical history, skin condition, treatment area, and any implanted devices or previous procedures should be reviewed before treatment. Careful patient selection and individualized treatment planning are an important part of reducing risk and achieving a safe, appropriate result.

Why Choose Cabo Plastic Surgery for Sofwave?

The technology matters, but how it is used — and who is guiding your treatment — matters just as much. Our approach combines:

  • Personalized treatment planning based on your anatomy, skin laxity, and goals.
  • Medical oversight within a board-certified plastic surgeon's practice.
  • Anesthesiologist-administered sedation for full face and neck treatment.
  • Honest recommendations about when Sofwave is appropriate — and when another treatment or surgery may provide a better result.
  • Natural-looking results that preserve your individual features.
  • Comprehensive follow-up after your treatment.

Dr. Roberto López Konschot brings more than 20 years of surgical experience and detailed knowledge of facial anatomy to the practice's overall approach to facial rejuvenation. Sofwave is not treated as a one-size-fits-all procedure — it is one option within a personalized approach to helping you age naturally and confidently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sofwave painful?

Sofwave can be uncomfortable because ultrasound energy is delivered into the dermis. At Cabo Plastic Surgery, full face and neck treatments include sedation administered and monitored by an anesthesiologist, allowing for a significantly more comfortable treatment experience.

How many Sofwave treatments will I need?

Many patients can achieve meaningful improvement with one treatment. Depending on your degree of skin laxity, response, and goals, an additional session may be recommended.

When will I see results?

Some improvement may become noticeable within several weeks, with continued tightening and firming as collagen remodeling progresses over approximately 2–3 months.

How long do Sofwave results last?

Results vary according to age, skin quality, degree of laxity, and the natural aging process. Maintenance treatment can be personalized as your skin continues to change over time.

Is there downtime after Sofwave?

Skin downtime is minimal. Temporary redness, warmth, or mild swelling may occur. Because full face and neck treatment here includes sedation, you will need someone to drive you home and should plan a quiet remainder of the day.

Can Sofwave replace a facelift?

No. Sofwave is best suited to mild to moderate skin laxity. Significant jowling, neck laxity, or deeper tissue descent may be better treated surgically. Your consultation helps determine which approach is most appropriate for your anatomy and goals.

I had Ultherapy or Sofwave before and did not see results. Does that mean ultrasound skin tightening does not work for me?

Not necessarily. Results depend on patient selection, degree of skin laxity, treatment technique, and the energy delivered. In some cases, settings may be kept more conservative because of patient discomfort, which can potentially affect the treatment delivered.

Here, full face and neck Sofwave is performed with sedation administered by an anesthesiologist, allowing patient comfort to be managed independently while treatment follows the individualized plan. However, limited results can also mean that the degree of laxity is beyond what a non-surgical treatment can reasonably correct.

How is Sofwave different from Ultherapy?

Both use ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen, but they deliver that energy differently and at different tissue depths. Sofwave uses parallel ultrasound beams delivered within the mid-dermis, while Ultherapy uses microfocused ultrasound at selected deeper tissue depths. Neither technology is automatically better for every patient.

Can Sofwave be used on the body?

Yes. Sofwave has an FDA-cleared indication for improving upper-arm skin laxity. Other body areas may be considered based on your anatomy and treatment goals, although not every body application has the same FDA-cleared indication.

Is Sofwave a laser?

No. Sofwave uses ultrasound energy, not laser or intense pulsed light. Its SUPERB™ technology delivers controlled energy into the dermis to stimulate collagen remodeling.

Can Sofwave be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Sofwave can be incorporated into a broader rejuvenation plan with treatments that address volume, pigmentation, texture, or other aspects of facial aging. The combination should be individualized rather than following the same treatment plan for every patient.

Sofwave Treatment in Los Cabos

Sofwave™ can be especially convenient for patients who live in or travel to Los Cabos, because the skin itself requires minimal downtime and generally allows a quick return to normal activities.

For patients traveling from outside the area, a virtual consultation may be arranged before your visit to discuss your concerns, goals, and whether Sofwave is likely to be appropriate. Your treatment plan is finalized after an in-person evaluation.

Because full face and neck Sofwave includes sedation, you will need a responsible adult to accompany you home after treatment and should keep the remainder of the day free for recovery. We also recommend maintaining daily sun protection and good skincare while enjoying Los Cabos.
