Before Surgery
This allows time to recover from air travel and prolonged sitting, complete your in-person examination and required preoperative testing, and address any final preparations before surgery.
Patients over 40 years of age or with medical conditions also undergo a preoperative medical risk assessment with an Internal Medicine specialist before surgery.
Arriving in advance gives us adequate time to complete these evaluations and helps ensure you are appropriately prepared before your procedure.
Preparation
The days before surgery should be treated as preparation for your procedure — not the beginning of a Cabo vacation.
Stay well hydrated, rest, eat normally and nutritiously, and avoid alcohol, recreational or non-prescribed drugs, excessive sun exposure, and any over-the-counter medications or supplements that have not been approved by your surgical team. Follow the specific instructions provided regarding your regular prescription medications.
Our goal is for you to arrive for surgery rested, well hydrated, and in the healthiest condition possible. Factors that contribute to dehydration, swelling, or inflammation before surgery can make early recovery more difficult.

Length of Stay
The recommended length of stay depends on your procedure and individual recovery. Each of our procedure pages provides more specific guidance.
We recommend remaining in Los Cabos until your initial postoperative care is complete and any sutures that require removal have been removed by your surgeon.
For most surgical procedures, this generally means planning to stay approximately 7–14 days after surgery, although some procedures or individual circumstances may require a longer stay.
This early recovery period is also when certain postoperative concerns — such as seromas, hematomas, or slower-than-expected healing — may require evaluation or treatment.
Remaining nearby allows Dr. López Konschot and his team to monitor your healing, manage dressings or drains when needed, remove sutures at the appropriate time, and address any concerns promptly before you travel home.
Your recommended departure date is individualized and may change depending on how you are healing.
During Recovery
While you remain in Los Cabos, Dr. López Konschot and his team remain available for postoperative concerns between scheduled visits. Surgical patients receive instructions on how to contact the team should a concern arise. When needed, you can be evaluated in person rather than waiting until your next scheduled appointment.
Planning Your Care
Accommodation
Where you stay can make recovery easier and more comfortable.
During the first few days after surgery, we recommend prioritizing convenience, accessibility, and proximity to your medical team. Later, you may prefer more space, privacy, or a resort environment.
For many surgical patients, Hampton Inn & Suites Los Cabos is particularly convenient during the first days of recovery because of its location near Cabo Plastic Surgery and Hospital H+ Los Cabos. An elevator provides direct access to Cabo Plastic Surgery’s entrance, making postoperative visits particularly convenient.
El Merkado, located within the same development, offers a wide selection of restaurants and food options. Koral Center also has a pharmacy for basic pharmacy needs, and pharmacy delivery to the hotel is available from other local providers.
Hotel, hospital, Cabo Plastic Surgery, dining and pharmacy all sit within a very small area, so for the first few days there is little need to move around Los Cabos other than for postoperative care. Special rates are usually available for surgical patients.
For a longer recovery, a condominium, villa, private residence, or extended-stay accommodation may offer additional comfort, particularly when traveling with a companion or caregiver.
Useful features include a kitchen or kitchenette, elevator access or minimal stairs, a walk-in shower, laundry facilities, easy vehicle access, and a quiet environment for recovery.
Once the earliest stage of recovery has passed, some patients choose to spend the remainder of their stay in a resort or quieter oceanfront setting before returning home.
A resort or boutique hotel can provide a comfortable environment to rest, but recovery after surgery is not the same as a Cabo vacation. Swimming pools, the ocean, hot tubs, exercise, strenuous activities, tours and excursions, sun exposure, alcohol, and certain spa treatments may be restricted during recovery. For most patients, activities can begin to gradually resume after the first two weeks, according to the procedure, healing progress, and Dr. López Konschot’s recommendations.
Casa Costa Azul is a locally owned, family-run oceanfront boutique hotel in San José del Cabo, offering a smaller, more personal alternative to a larger resort.
A Two-Stage Stay
Transportation
Transportation options throughout Los Cabos include rental cars, Uber, taxis, and private transportation.
A rental car can be convenient for a companion or caregiver, particularly for longer stays. Surgical patients should not plan to drive during early recovery and should resume driving only when medically appropriate.
Uber and taxis are widely available throughout Los Cabos. Airport pickup procedures may differ, so travelers should follow current airport instructions upon arrival.
During the first few days after surgery, less travel is generally better.
Support
For most surgical procedures, we recommend traveling with a responsible adult who can accompany you during early recovery.
Your companion can assist with transportation, meals, medications, mobility, and everyday needs while you rest. Depending on your procedure, additional assistance may be recommended during the first days after surgery.
Before You Fly Home
Before departure, Dr. López Konschot and his team will evaluate your recovery and provide instructions for the next stage of healing at home. Follow-up continues after you leave Los Cabos, including virtual follow-up when appropriate.
Depending on your procedure and recovery, you may be advised to walk periodically during your trip, stay well hydrated, and wear compression garments when prescribed. A companion should assist with luggage and transportation whenever possible to avoid unnecessary lifting or physical strain.
